Film: Owners of the Water: Conflict and Collaboration Over Rivers
Time: 7pm
Location: UWM Union Theatre
"The Western world's insatiable appetite for the soybean is wreaking environmental havoc in Brazil, where lush forests are clear-cut to make room for soy farmers. For the Xavante people, the run-off from caustic fertilizers threatens a river that is central to their culture and to their ceremonies. But in a world where commerce rules and where soy is an established health food product, who will listen to their plight? This film shows the work being done by indigenous people to fight corporate destruction of their environment."
