The Glass Shop
Neal Korfhage, head of the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry Glass Shop, repairs all types of glassware and equipment for teaching and research. He routinely fabricates custom equipment, makes graded seals and metal to glass seals. He works with quartz and other special types of glass. The Glass Shop also works with silver-coating, large-diameter glass tubing requiring lathe work, cutting, polishing and grinding, and additional other glass work. Neal provides consultation on the design, fabrication, materials, workability and general feasibility of glass equipment. He also teaches practical scientific glassblowing skills offered in a spring semester graduate-level course.
