Various other courses from outside the department can be used to supplement (or in some cases substitute for) the methods courses available in Communication. Students developing expertise in quantitative research methods may be interested in outside courses that address:
- correlation and regression,
- experimental design (i.e., ANOVA),
- general multivariate techniques,
- analysis of categorical data, and
- structural equation modeling.
Students developing expertise in qualitative research methods may be interested in outside courses that offer great depth in specific approaches; courses in ethnographic research methods in the Department of Anthropology and in historiographic research methods in the Department of History are examples.
