Randy and Joanna Parlee Scholarship

The Randy and Joanna Parlee scholarship fund was established to provide support and recognition for students who excel in the study of Communication. The award is designated for Communication majors at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UWM). This scholarship is awarded annually during the Fall term of the academic year. Awards from this scholarship may range up to $1,000.00.

Requirements

To apply, a student must:

  • be an undergraduate student enrolled at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in the College of Letters and Science,
  • be a declared major in Communication, and
  • have a minimum of one complete semester of enrollment remaining before graduation

Selection Criteria

Selection criteria for this scholarship are based upon:

  • overall grade point average (GPA) in all coursework
  • GPA in the Communication major
  • quality of written composition and expression on an original essay (no longer than 250 words) addressing the applicant's communication-related accomplishments in the areas of academic study, extracurricular activities, and/or service to the academic or civic community; and
  • potential for benefiting from receiving the scholarship within the applicant's context of financial need

Applications

To apply, a student must submit the following items by October 15th:

  • the Randy and Joanna Parlee application form, available on the Department of Communication’s Scholarships/Awards website (see below)
  • a current copy of the student's UWM transcript (unofficial copies are acceptable)
  • a written statement (250 word maximum) addressing the applicant's communication-related accomplishments in the areas of academic study, extracurricular activities, and/or service to the academic or civic community
  • verified records of any financial assistance or previous scholarships awarded on the basis of financial need
