Unfortunately there are no hotels located in the immediate vicinity of UWM. However, there are two clusters of hotels located only a few minutes’ drive from campus.

Downtown Accommodations

UWM is located only a few miles north of downtown. The quickest, easiest, and most scenic way to get to the campus is to drive up the lakefront on Lincoln Memorial Drive until it intersects with Lake Drive. Proceed north on Lake until you reach Kenwood Boulevard, where you will turn left (west). The campus is straight ahead just passed Downer Ave. (You can also take Prospect Avenue north until it intersects with North Avenue, then take North Avenue to Lake Drive, then to Kenwood.)

North of campus (Glendale area) Accommodations:

The following hotels are located on Port Washington Road in a nice residential area a few miles north of campus. They would be a good choice if staying downtown is not a priority for you. To get to the UWM campus, take Silver Spring Drive east (toward Lake Michigan) from Port Washington Road until you reach Lake Drive, then turn right onto Lake Drive (south). Keep on Lake Drive until you reach Edgewood Ave., where you will turn right. Downer Ave. borders the eastern edge of the campus.

Student Homestay/Couchsurfing

We are pleased to extend the opportunity for homestays/couchsurfing to students attending and presenting at the Conference. All homestay/couchsurfing locations are located either within walking distance of the conference, or located on a direct bus line to campus. If you have any restrictions, or requests, please let us know; some homes have resident cats and/or dogs, or may be in elevator-free buildings. All homes are non-smoking. A few homes have space for more than one student, so if you're traveling as a couple, let us know. If you are interested in a homestay, or even just have a question about them, contact Jeremy at critgeogmilwaukee@gmail.com. Please put "HOMESTAY REQUEST" in the subject line. We'll take it from there, and put you in contact with a suitable host. All homestay opportunities are first-come, first served, so don't delay!

If you are driving to Milwaukee for the conference, and will be staying at a homestay on Friday night, you may want to take note of the City of Milwaukee's parking regulations at http://www.ci.mil.wi.us/mpw/ParkingServicesInfo.htm (see especially the Night Parking regulations). If you need night parking on Saturday night, the City does not enforce night parking restrictions on Saturday nights.

If you will take transit from the airport, please refer to the Milwaukee County Transit System's website at http://www.ridemcts.com/. Please note that only one bus serves the airport: Route 80. It is a local bus, and you will need to make a transfer to get to the UWM campus, the East Side, Riverwest, or Bayview. It will take about an hour (or more) to get to where you need to go, so plan accordingly!

Please feel free to email the Critical Geography Conference Planning Committee at critgeogmilwaukee@gmail.com with any questions.
