We offer programs emphasizing outstanding research scholarship and innovative pedagogy in Literary Studies; Rhetoric and Composition; Creative Writing; Professional Writing; Media, Cinema and Digital Studies; and Modern Studies. Our undergraduate and graduate courses have as their common ground the English language, its effective use as a means of written communication, and the literature it has generated over many centuries and in many geographical areas. We therefore recognize and will continue to respond to the international and cross-cultural importance of the English language, both as a means of communication in world affairs and as the literary voice of diverse peoples. Concurrently, we embrace that digital culture is transforming these traditional commitments, enriching the possibilities for both scholarship and teaching.

Giving To English

We are always happy to hear from undergraduate and graduate alumni. Please drop us a line to let us know what is new in your life and how you are using your English degree(s), or any updates you would like to give to your fellow alums. Alumni can add or update their information by sending an email to kilkenn3@uwm.edu.

And while you are thinking about your days at UWM, why not make a contribution to the university and the Department of English?
