Suggested Course Sequence

First Year:

  • English 111 - Film, Television and Internet and
  • English 290 - Introduction to Film Studies (CORE REQUIREMENT) and
  • Art History 205 - History of Film I (FALL ONLY) (CORE REQUIREMENT)

Second year:

  • Two or three intermediate electives (200-level) and (if not completed during First Year):
  • English 290 - Introduction to Film Studies (CORE REQUIREMENT) and/or
  • Art History 205 - History of Film I (FALL ONLY) (CORE REQUIREMENT)

Third/Fourth year:

  • English 390 - Classical Film Criticism and Theory (FALL ONLY) (CORE REQUIREMENT) and
  • Remaining intermediate courses (200-level) if any and
  • Three advanced courses (300-level and above)

Final year:

  • Remaining advanced electives (300-level and above) and
  • Film Studies 489 - Internship in Film Studies (not required, but strongly recommended) and
  • Film Studies 590 - Contemporary Film Criticism and Theory (SPRING ONLY) (CORE REQUIREMENT) (ENG 390 is prerequisite for FS 590).
