ePanther Login Issues

Q: How can I set up my ePanther account?
A: New students and faculty members must activate their ePanther accounts at the ePanther Account Activation page. Enter your social security number or Campus ID (listed on your UWM ID card) and your birthdate to begin. Please be sure to enter security questions that you will remember, and answer them clearly so that you can provide the same responses in the future.

If you have entered your ID or SSN and birthdate correctly but cannot activate your account, please call the UWM Help Desk at 229-4040. You may not yet be in the system, or your birthdate might have been entered incorrectly into our database.

Q: Why can't I log into PantherLink, PAWS, PantherFile, or myUWM?
A: Your ePantherID and password are used to access most UWM services. Your ePantherID is generated from your name; if your name was John N. Smith, your ePantherID may be jnsmith or jsmith7, for example. Do not include the @uwm.edu when you log in to PantherLink.

If you are sure you are entering your ID and Password correctly but you still cannot log in, try logging into another ePanther service such as PantherFile or PAWS. This will help you determine the scope of the problem. If you cannot log into multiple services, you may have incorrectly remembered your password. You can reset your password from a web browser.

If you are still not able to log in after changing your password, you should contact the help desk for further troubleshooting.

Q: Why can't I log into my computer in my office/department?
A: Computers on campus must be connected to the network before users can log into the machine. If you cannot log into an office or departmental machine, first check that the network cable is plugged securely into both the network jack in the wall and into the plug in the back of your computer. If either end was unplugged, you may need to restart your machine after plugging in the network cable.

Access to departmental and office computers is controlled centrally by the account administrators. If the machine you are trying to log into is connected to the network and you are still unable to log into the machine, you probably need to have access to the machine added to your account.

If you are a faculty or staff member who would like to grant yourself or another person access to an L&S-supported computer, fill out the Network Account Change section of our support webform.

A: If you would like to change your password, you can visit the Change Password page. Enter your ePantherID and current password; if you have forgotten your password you will need to reset your password.

Q: How can I reset a forgotten password?
A: You can reset a forgotten password at the Forgotten Password page. Enter your SSN or Campus ID, birthdate, and optionally your ePantherID. You will need to answer your security questions to reset your password. Security questions must be answered EXACTLY as they were originally entered, or they will not be accepted.

Read the password requirements carefully; the server is very strict about what constitutes an acceptable password. If you are having trouble making a password that the server will accept, you can press the Generate button to generate a new password that fits all of the rules.

If you did not set your security questions initially or if you cannot remember the answers to the questions, you may need a manual reset. To have your password reset, visit the Campus Computer Lab on the second floor of Bolton Hall between 8AM and 5PM weekdays. Bring your Campus ID for identification. If you cannot come to campus, call 229-4040 to speak with a Help Desk technician; however, a employee with rights to change your password may not be available after business hours.

Q: I can log into UWM web services, but not my office computer. Help!
A: This is often a result of a password which is not 8 characters. To clarify, you will be able to use PantherLink and other online UWM services with a password longer than 8 characters, but to log on to the UWM network your ePanther password must be exactly 8 characters. Please visit the AD Sync page and follow the instructions to reset your ePanther password.
