Information for Prospective Graduate Students

The Department of Mathematical Sciences Graduate Admission Committee evaluates all applications and decides which candidates will be admitted and which of those admitted students will receive offers of financial support in the form of fellowships, teaching assistantships, or research assistantships. All applicants will automatically be considered for both admission and financial support, unless directed otherwise by the candidate.

Admission

Students must apply to the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Graduate School by completing the university-wide online application. In addition, there is a concise departmental online application which also must be completed before an applicant can be admitted to the program. A key component of the latter application requires the applicant to provide names and email addresses of three (3) individuals who have agreed to provide letters of recommendation. Submission of general GRE scores is recommended, but not required; the GRE Mathematics subject test scores are appreciated, but not required.

Admission and financial aid decisions are made on a rolling basis--there are no hard deadlines. Nevertheless, for candidates seeking to begin studies in the Fall semester, it is recommended that the university-wide application be completed by January 15 and the departmental application (including all letters of recommendation) be submitted by January 31. Meeting these soft deadlines will maximize the applicants chances of getting the best-possible offer from our department.

3. Mailing your transcript(s) and letters of recommendation to the department will not complete your application.
