In order to enroll in the MLS program, an applicant must be admitted to the UWM Graduate School. Specific MLS admission requirements include:
- Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university, evidenced by transcripts.
- Two-page essay describing the applicant's interest in undertaking interdisciplinary graduate study, including any prior personal, professional, or academic experience related to this goal.
- Interview with MLS Program Director.
- For international students, a minimum score of 250 on the new Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) and 50 on the Test of Spoken English (TSE).

A modest fee of approximately $100 per credit will be assessed due to the program's innovative nature, intimate scale, special staffing and facilities, and extracurricular offerings.
