NSF-UWM Symposium Open Forum for Innovation in Two-Photon Microspectroscopy

The symposium will focus on solutions to the three major barriers blocking wide adoption of fluorescence micro-spectroscopy in academic and industrial research laboratories.  First, studies using laser-scanning micro-spectroscopic systems would benefit tremendously from faster data acquisition speed.  Second, the cost of such systems must decrease dramatically for this technology to be widely accepted.  Third, tagging techniques must be refined such that each type of molecular imaging application has established specific standards.

GWPAW: Gravitational-wave Physics and Astronomy Workshop, January 26th-29th 2011

gwpaw_logo The Gravitational-wave Physics and Astronomy Workshop will bring together experts in gravitational waves, astronomy and computational astrophysics to address open questions in gravitational-wave astronomy.

The 4-day workshop will be hosted by the Center for Gravitation and Cosmology at University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee during 26-29 January 2011.

Gravitational Wave Tests of Alternative Theories of Gravity in the Advanced Detector Era, May 26th-27th 2010

altgrav_logoGravitational wave tests of the theory of gravity have the potential to shed light on some of the most profound challenges facing physics today: from explanations of cosmic acceleration and dark matter to the reconciliation of gravity and quantum theory. Advanced LIGO and Virgo are expected to come on-line around 2014, and it is expected to make routine gravitational wave detections with these instruments. To begin preparations for this era, UWM's Center for Gravitation and Cosmology is hosting this workshop in Milwaukee.
