Health Psychology focuses on the scientific relationships between behavioral variables on the one hand and physical health and illness on the other. In addition to programs of study leading to the master's and Ph.D which focus on this topic, our department has a large number of faculty actively engaged in research in this area.
Health Psychology faculty and students work together on projects focused on gender and health, cancer prevention and health education, reproductive health and STD prevention, the effects of stress and mechanisms of coping with it, child abuse prevention, alcohol abuse, and smoking. Health Psychology research is conducted in the laboratory as well as in clinical settings and many of the faculty have strong ties to the Milwaukee community.
