UWM Compass Scholarships in the Natural Sciences
Terms and Conditions for Compass Scholars
- You must matriculate at UWM in the College of Letters and Science for fall 2009. This scholarship is valid for study only at UWM. Compass Scholarships are competitive and need based.
- Each fall semester you must attend an orientation meeting that will be scheduled during the first or second week of classes.
- You must file the 2009-10 FAFSA and release the information to UWM. You must complete and submit the “Release of Financial Information” form. You must file the FAFSA on an annual basis and demonstrate financial need to be considered for scholarship renewal.
- Prior to registering for your first semester classes you must indicate to us an intended major within the natural science departments (Biological Sciences, Chemistry & Biochemistry, Geosciences, Mathematical Sciences, or Physics) or in a natural science interdisciplinary program. This major may be changed within allowed natural science majors (listed above) without compromising your support.
- You must successfully complete at least 13 credit hours in each fall/spring semester and at least 28, 56, 84 credit hours by the start of the fall semester 2010, 2011, 2012 respectively.
- You must maintain a minimum 2.75 overall grade point average at UWM, a minimum 2.75 grade point average in your major at UWM, and pursue the coursework and directives outlined by your Compass and Academic advisors.
- You may not use credits from Sport and Recreation to meet the above credit and GPA requirements.
- You must remain in the College of Letters and Science and make progress leading to a baccalaureate degree with a Natural Science major in no more than 8 semesters.
- Upon reaching 45 credits, you must submit a declaration of major form selecting a natural science department (Biological Sciences, Chemistry & Biochemistry, Geosciences, Mathematical Sciences, or Physics) or a natural science interdisciplinary program in which to major. You may declare a major after 15 credits.
- You must attend a minimum 75% of Compass programming events (on average 4-6 hours per month).
- Scholarship funds from this program may be applied to educationally related expenses, including tuition and fees, books and supplies, room and board. Funds will be applied to any outstanding institutional charges first and any proceeds will be refunded to the student. The scholarship will automatically be renewed each semester for each student who successfully fulfills conditions 1-10, up to a maximum of four years (eight semesters) total. Annual award amounts will be determined based on financial need and academic performance.
- Failure to maintain any of these criteria, or the discovery of false application information, may lead to revocation or termination of the award.
