UWM's College of Letters & Science (L&S) provides academic advising for all students interested in pursuing an L&S major, minor, certificate and/or degree. Students who are undecided about their major are also assigned to the College of Letters & Science and an L&S advisor. If you are unsure who your advisor is, log into your PAWS account and look for your advisor's name in the lower right hand side of your home page.
Students are matched with an advisor whose specialization best coincides with their specific needs. For example, there are advisors for Pre-Med students, and others specifically for freshmen.
Working with your advisor, you will be provided with guidance, insight, and advice, as well as challenge and support. Your advisor will help you choose courses that match your academic goals and educational program. They will also provide a listening ear, answer general questions, and direct you to other services, as necessary.
Many students begin college undecided on a major. By taking a variety of classes during your freshman year, you should be able to identify areas of strength and interest that align with a major. Students are encouraged to declare a major by the middle to end of sophomore year in order to stay on a track for a timely graduation.
