he Departments of English and Communication jointly offer a Graduate Certificate in Professional Writing and Communication. This certificate is tailored for students beyond the B.A. level who seek professional training and education to advance their careers.
Online Availability
All courses are available online. Students also take a combination of online and face-to-face courses.
Innovative Curriculum
The Certificate offers an interdisciplinary curriculum that will enable students to develop exceptionally strong writing and communication skills in the following areas:
- Professional and technical writing
- Information development
- Document design
- Communication across organizations and technical operations
- Communication theory and organizational communication
- Group communication and teamwork
- User interface design and web design
- Instructional design and training program development
- Project management
- Technical editing
- Usability testing
- Technical skills (such as HTML, XML, and scripting languages)
- Writing in social media and emerging technologies
- Research and information management
Students will practice writing, both individually and collaboratively, and will apply theory to practice as they gain experience in actual off-campus projects.
