Admissions Process

Applicants to the Certificate Program must have completed a baccalaureate degree with a minimum cumulative undergraduate GPA of 2.75 and must submit the following materials with their graduate school application:

  • Two letters of recommendation
  • A writing sample
  • A statement of purpose
  • A statement describing Internet and computer access

When to apply?
You can apply at any time.

Where to apply?
As a student earning the Graduate Certificate in Professional Writing and Communication, you apply to the Graduate School as a "Non-Degree Graduate Student."

Important: If you intend to enroll in both the Certificate program and a graduate degree program, you must apply for admission to both the Certificate program and to the graduate degree program of your choice. See M.A . Option - Ph.D. for more information. With the approval of the graduate coordinator of the student's graduate program, up to six credits completed in the Certificate also may satisfy your graduate program requirements.
