Program Requirements
UW-Milwaukee offers professional training to students in French, German and Spanish who wish to pursue careers in translation or fields requiring professional use of more than one language. As translation is interdisciplinary, the program combines courses in Foreign Languages, English, Linguistics, Comparative Literature, Library and Information Science and the MAFLL Program. Students obtain a Masters in Foreign Languages and Linguistics (MAFLL) with a concentration in Translation, or a Graduate Certificate in Translation. Students pursuing the Graduate Certificate may take four foundation courses at the undergraduate level, but those courses must be taken at the graduate level if they are to be applied to a MAFLL degree. Certificate courses must be taken at the graduate level. The MA is awarded after students complete the following with overall GPA of 3.0 or higher:
