Social Research and Urban Life

Ninth Annual Student Forum
April 24, 2004

    Forum Booklet
    Featured Speaker

For the ninth consecutive year, Urban Studies Programs at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee is pleased to welcome you to our annual student forum. This year's forum will take place on UWM campus on the second level of the Student Union. The forum is designed for students, alumni, and faculty to come together to discuss and investigate themes associated with urban structure and change. Organized by the master's and doctoral students in urban studies, the forum reflects the interests and concerns of a diverse student body.

The main objective of the forum is to bring together the vast array of theories and methodologies of this multidisciplinary program. It not only provides a chance to investigate important urban issues, but it also offers a challenge -- to address the outcomes of these issues and construct effective solutions for the social problems of our cities. The first morning session will allow us to share methods and techniques of urban research and further our understanding of how to investigate urban issues. The later sessions will showcase students' recent research and facilitate productive discourse. The forum will conclude with a keynote address from Dr. John Logan, a distinguished professor with the Department of Sociology and Public Administration at the University Albany, New York. Dr. Logan is the author of Political Economy of Place, and co-wrote the Family Ties: Enduring Relations Between Parents and their Grown Children, among other publications.

Thank you for being a part of this year's forum. Your participation and contribution are invaluable to the event.

Kimberly Stephenson, Forum Committee Chair
