Press Release

UWM's Urban Studies Programs will hold its Tenth Annual Student Forum on Saturday May 7th from 9 AM to 6 PM. This year's event is titled Processes, Challenges, and Change: A Decade of Urban Discourse, 1996-2005. The forum will be held at the UWM campus Student Union in the Wisconsin Room (E250 and E260). Organized by the MS and PhD students in the Urban Studies Programs, the forum reflects the interest and concerns of our diverse student body.

The main objective of the forum is to bring together the vast array of theories and methodologies of the Urban Studies program which is multidisciplinary in nature. It not only provides a chance to investigate important urban issues, but it also offers a unique challenge: a chance to address the outcomes of these issues and construct effective solutions for the social problems of our cities.

The day's events include paper presentations on a variety of topics by graduate students in Urban Studies and other related fields. Topics include public policy, race and the city, and social science theoretical perspectives. There will also be discussion panels on a variety of topics.

The forum will conclude with a keynote address by Dr. Douglas Rae, the Richard S. Ely Professor of Organization and Management and Professor of Political Science at Yale University. Dr. Rae is the author of numerous articles and of City: Urbanism and Its End.

For more information about this year's forum feel free to contact Jacob Avery at jpavery@uwm.edu or usp@uwm.edu or you can visit http://www4.uwm.edu/letsci/urbanstudies/ and follow the events link.

The forum is free of charge.
