14th Annual Urban Studies Student Forum
Call for Papers
What is the Urban Studies Programs' Student Forum?
The USP Student Forum is a conference designed to give students and alumni engaged in urban research a relaxed and professional venue in which to present their work. The Forum provides an invaluable opportunity to practice presentation skills and receive constructive feedback from faculty, students, and alumni. Additionally, every paper submitted by the March 1, 2009 deadline and presented at the Forum will be considered for the "Scott Greer Award for Outstanding Research in Urban Studies," and the award winning paper will be published in the USP's electronic journal, e.polis.
Who can participate in the Urban Studies Student Forum?
Urban Studies is a cross-disciplinary program and welcomes the participation of any UW-Milwaukee student or alum engaged in research with an urban focus.
How do I participate?
- Select a paper you have written or will be writing; your thesis or dissertation chapter, etc. If your academic discipline produces research in a different format (other than a paper) let us know. We'd still like to hear your work if it can accommodated;
- Submit a short, informal abstract by January 30, 2009
- Submit the paper you will be presenting by March 1, 2009 Note: Papers CAN NOT exceed 30 pages;
- Present your research at the Forum on April 4th.
What should the abstract include?
The abstract is a simple 100-200 word summary of your paper. The abstract should give the
coordinating committee an idea of what you will be presenting; it may also be included in the Forum program. Your abstract should include:
- The title of your presentation
- Your full name
- Your academic status (MS or PhD student, or Alum)
- Your home department
- 100-200 word summary of your work
If you have special needs that require assistance, please call 229-4751 by March 27 to let us know.
2009 Dates to Remember:
February 13th - Abstract deadline
March 10th - Paper deadline
