2009 Forum Keynote Address

Laura McEnaney, Ph.D.

Laura McEnaney, Ph.D., gave this year's Keynote Address at the 2009 Student Forum. Dr. McEnaney is the Nadine Austin Wood Chair in American History and Associate Professor in the Department of History, Whittier College, Whittier, California. She received her Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin - Madison. Her areas of expertise include the postwar United States and the history of American women. She has been most recently working on the history of demobilization from World War II as an urban story. Dr. McEnaney has published the book Civil Defense Begins at Home: Militarization Meets Everyday Life in the Fifties (Princeton University Press, 2000). She currently has a book manuscript in progress: World War II's "Postwar": A Social and Policy History of Peace, 1944-1953. She has been published in many academic journals and has been a sought-after presenter.
