It is important that students considering the certificate or major declare earlier rather than later to ensure courses have been taken that meet the requirements. Students who have declared the major or certificate need to make regular contact (email or in person) with the Associate Director to ensure that timely progress toward the certificate or major is being made and that the certificate/major can be completed in time for graduation. Students who plan to graduate soon need to contact the Associate Director the semester prior to the final semester.
Each semester the Associate Director sends an email out to all certificate/major students with a set of course descriptions and a call for advising. It is up to each student to respond advising to schedule an appointment. All students in the major also need to meet with their Letters and Science advisor to ensure degree credits have been met. Successfully completing the major does not mean that all degree requirements have been met--only a student’s L&S advisor can make that determination.
