Undergraduate major and minor, M.A., and Ph.D. Also offered is a coordinated degree program with the School of Information Studies, leading to a Master of Arts in Language and Literature/Master of Information Science. Graduate study is concentrated on: literary studies, rhetoric and composition, creative writing, English language and linguistics, or modern studies.

Emphases include literature in English from all periods, in Britain, Ireland, and the U.S.; genre studies including fiction, poetry, and drama; the essay and other nonfiction writing; editing; film, television, and theories of mass culture; literature and society, science and religion; critical theory; and literacy theory.
