Academic Program
 

B.A. and M.A. in Foreign Languages and Literature. Undergraduate minor available. At the undergraduate level, there is a standard major and a culture and philology track. An undergraduate certificate program in German Studies is offered. At the graduate level interdisciplinary study is offered in addition to a Concentration in German. A Certificate in Translation is offered at the graduate level, as is a coordinated degree program leading to a simultaneous MAFLL/MLIS in cooperation with the School of Information Studies.

Literary and cultural history, including myth and legend, Jewish contributions to German life and civilization, German film, and German-American culture, are taught, in addition to language proficiency, phonetics and the history of the German language, literary genre studies and stylistics, as well as major authors and literary movements of all periods. Some literature in translation is offered.
