Instructions and Software Requirements

  Instructions:

  Clicking on the link will open a new window or tab in which:

  1. a track listing will appear. Click the check box next to the piece you wish to listen to; then, click the "Play Selections" button.

  or

  2. a player will appear and the audio will begin to play automatically.

  Please click the "logout" button when you are finished listening.

  UWM Libraries' licensing with Naxos only allows for 10 simultaneous users. If you cannot gain access, please try again later.

  Software Requirements:

  Adobe Flash Player is required.

  Instructions:

  Clicking on the link will open a new window in which a list of tracks will appear. Click on the play icon associated with a track to launch the Music Conductor Player. The audio should automatically begin playing.

  Clicking on the link will open a window or tab in which:

  1. a track listing will appear. Click on the title you wish to listen to in the playlist to begin the audio.

  or

  2. a player will appear and the audio will begin to play automatically.

  Software Requirements:

  Javascript must be enabled

  Flash Player is required.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. What software do I need on my computer to listen from an audio e-reserve page?

Please see the section "Instructions and Software Requirements" above for software requirements.

2. The audio from (Naxos) links is choppy. The player often stalls and/or says "buffering...".

You can fix this problem by lowering the streaming rate of Naxos Music Library. Please note that this will result in lower sound quality.

Click one of the buttons circled below on the player itself to make this change. The currently selected sound quality is highlighted with red text.

Note: "FM" and "Near CD" quality sound are available on most recordings. "CD" quality sound is only available on select recordings.

    

The UWM Libraries' default streaming rate for Naxos Music Library is "Near CD" sound quality (64Kbps - kilobits per second). Individuals using dial-up internet connections (generally connecting at 56kbps or lower) will have choppy audio with this setting. Lowering the streaming rate to "FM" quality sound (20Kbps) should even out the playback.

3. The sound quality on (Classical) links isn't very good. Can this be changed?

Yes. Classical Music Library by default streams at 22Kbps (kilobits per second) resulting in sound quality equal to FM radio. This allows dial-up users to listen with minimal difficulties. Users with higher speed connections many wish to raise the streaming rate for better sound quality.

4. Can I listen from off campus?

Yes you can. But you may need to download some free software to your computer first. Please see the question above: What software do I need on my computer to listen from an audio e-reserve page?
