DID YOU KNOW .......

That a 1984 study found that physical, mental, emotional, and social development is faster when students learn a musical instrument?

That in a Scottish study, one group of elementary students received musical training, while another group received an equal amount of discussion skills training. After six months, the students in the music group achieved a significant increase in reading test scores, while the scores of the discussion skills group did not change.

That a 2000 study indicates that a student who participates in at least one college elective music course is 4.5 times more likely to stay in college than the general student population?

That playing a musical instrument has been shown to increase students math abilities and test scores?

Music education opens doors that help children pass from school into the world around them - a world of work, culture, intellectual activity, and human involvement. The future of all of us depends on providing children with a complete education that includes music (Gerald Ford)

MARCH is MUSIC IN OUR SCHOOLS MONTH
As more and more schools eliminate music programs and cut teachers everyone loses. Support your music educators and your school music programs.

UWM Libraries Want Your Opinion

The UWM Libraries are again participating in the web-based LibQUAL+® survey at:
http://www.uwm.edu/Library/libqual/
as part of ongoing efforts to assess the quality of our services, facilities, and collections.

LibQUAL+ ® gives you as a library user a chance to tell us where we are succeeding and where improvements are needed.

By comparing the data you provide with that of peer institutions and examining the practices of those libraries that are evaluated highly by their users, UWM Libraries can develop services, refocus acquisitions, and address building deficiencies to better meet your expectations.

If you would like to enter the drawing for incentive prizes, including an iPod Shuffle, please provide your email address when asked at the end of the survey.

The survey is available March 3-31.
