UWM Libraries receive a wide variety of electronic products produced by the U.S. Bureau of the Census. The following is a list of the product titles that the libraries received and a short explanation of what information each contains. Every title listed below is available in CD-ROM format; inquire at the RIS Information Desk for assistance. Internet addresses are provided, as available.

DEFINITIONS
Subject Data
Census of Population and Housing data that contains fewer tables of data (i.e., six population tables and six housing tables).

Sample Data
Census of Population and Housing data that contains greater numbers of tables of data (i.e., fourteen population tables and eleven housing tables).

AMERICAN FACTFINDER

The American FactFinder is the official data disseminator for the 2000 decennial census. Use the FactFinder to select data tabulations and maps from the data sets available in the system. American FactFinder will continue to expand, add data, and improve functionality. Currently, data is available from the 1990 Census, the 1997 Economic Census, the American Community Survey, the Census 2000 dress rehearsal, and currently available 2000 Census material. 1990 CENSUS OF POPULATION AND HOUSING - Summary Tape Files
Summary Tape Files contain varying numbers of tables. As defined above, the files may be subject data files, sample data files, or both.

STF 3A -
(REF-CD) HA 201 1990 STF-3A
This file contains complete SUBJECT and SAMPLE data from the 1990 Census of Population and Housing. This file contains more detailed information from the Census long form than STF 1A. The Wisconsin STF 3A is loaded on the library network, other CD's are broken down by states and located on the Research and Instructional Support Area CD-ROM shelves.
Geographic coverage: American Indian/Alaska Native Areas, States, Metropolitan Areas, Urbanized Areas, Urban/Rural, Counties, Places with a population of 10,000 or more, Places with a population of 10,000 or less, County Subdivisions/all MCDs and CCDs, Census Tracts or BNAs, and Block Groups.

STF 3B - ZIP CODE/BLOCK EQUIVALENT

This contains the complete SUBJECT and SAMPLE data.
Geographic coverage: States, Counties, Zip code areas.

STF 3C -
(REF-CD) HA 201 1990 STF-3C
Similar to STF 3A, but contains data for the United States, regions, divisions, states, counties, places of 10,000 or more, minor civil divisions of 10,000 or more. Two disks comprise 3C: Disk 1 contains the U.S. Summary, except urbanized areas and their components. Totals for all states can be obtained through disk 1. Disk 2 contains the urbanized areas and their components. Totals can only be obtained for urbanized areas. Totals may not be obtained for states.

STF 1A -

Complete SUBJECT data from the 1990 Census of Population and Housing is included in this CD-ROM. It contains LESS information than the STF 3A. All housing items are cross tabulated by race or Hispanic origin of householder or tenurer.

The Block Statistics series contains data from the STF 1B. Because it contains the complete SUBJECT data from the 1990 Census of Population and Housing, it offers fewer tables. To obtain more data on the block geographic, use STF 3A.

CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICTS OF THE UNITED STATES
(REF-CD) HA 201 1990 STF-1D
These contain all the SUBJECT and SAMPLE data from the 1990 Census of Population and Housing for each congressional district in the United States. Data is tabulated separately for counties, places of 10,000 or more, and minor civil divisions of 10,000 or more within each congressional district. The disks are updated at the end of each congress.
Geographic coverage: American Indian/Alaskan Native Areas, States, Congressional Districts (103st Congress), Counties, Places with a population of 10,000 or more, and MCDs with a population of 10,000 or more.

COUNTY TO COUNTY MIGRATION - IN AND OUT (2 CD-ROMs)

Contains summary statistics for all county to county migration patterns in the United States. It also provides selective characteristics of individuals who migrate.

EQUAL EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY FILE
(REF-CD) HA 201 1990 EEO
Contains data on occupation and education attainment. Each category is cross tabulated by sex, race, and Hispanic origin. The education attainment category is cross tabulated by age, sex, race, and Hispanic origin.
Geographic coverage: United States, States (Disk 1 contains Alabama through Missouri and Disk 2 contains Montana through Wyoming), Counties, Metropolitan Areas, and Places with a population of 50,000 or more.

PUBLIC LAW (P.L.) 94-171 DATA ON CD-ROM
(REF-CD) HA 201 1990 PL94
In accordance with P.L. 94-171, this file contains population and housing tabulations for every state for legislative redistricting. All data are cross-classified with five race categories for individuals age 18 and over. Select housing unit tables are included. Contains less tables than STF 1A or 3A.
Geographic coverage: American Indian/Alaska Native Areas, States, Counties, County Subdivisions, Places, Census Tracts or BNA's, Block Group's, and Voting Districts are included for the District of Columbia and all states but four.

PUMS (Public Use Microdata Samples)
PUMS is useful for individuals who may want to prepare cross-tabulations of population and housing characteristics not available in summary reports because it contains census long forms.
The CD's are in microdata format and all identifying information has been removed, therefore the CD must be given to Information and Media Technology (I&MT) staff for manipulation. Contact the Government Information Librarian for further information.
1% - (REF-CD) HA 201 1990 PUMS-B
This file contains a 1% sample of the complete SAMPLE data from the 1990 Housing Census. Geographic areas covered include MA's and other large areas with 100,000 or more inhabitants.

5% - (REF-CD) HA 201 1990 PUMS-A
Contains the same subject data as above, but provides a 5% sample for county groups, counties, and places with 100,000 or more population.

SPECIAL TABULATION ON AGING
(REF-CD) HA 201 1990 A45x
Data for persons on age by sex, race, and Hispanic origin is presented. The data for race is subdivided into categories. The race categories are cross tabulated with persons of Hispanic origin. The geographic content of this CD-ROM is on the county level. The CD-ROMs are arranged by state. All data is derived from the 1980 Census of Population.

ZIP Code Business Patterns includes data for all business establishments with one or more paid employees.
