The UWM Libraries are pleased to make 15 Digital Cameras available for use by current UWM students, faculty and staff with active UWM IDs. Digital Cameras are checked out from the Media Library located on the Lower Level, West Wing.
WHO CAN BORROW A DIGITAL CAMERA?
- Digital Cameras are loaned to current UWM students, faculty, and staff on a first-come, first-served basis.
- You must have your valid UWM ID card when borrowing a Digital Camera. NO EXCEPTIONS.
- One Digital Camera per person.
HOW LONG DOES THE DIGITAL CAMERA CIRCULATE?
- Loan period is 2-days.
- Digital Cameras are not renewable.
WHEN CAN I CHECKOUT A DIGITAL CAMERA?
Digital cameras may be checked during all posted Libraries hours. All Digital Cameras must be returned 30 minutes before the Media Library closes. The Media Library is open all posted UWM Circulation Desk Hours.
Please do not leave Digital Cameras unattended. You are solely responsible for the Digital Camera while it is checked out to you, and you will be accountable for any overdue fines, damage, loss, or theft.
- Overdue fines are: $10.00/hour
- You will be billed for reasonable repair or replacement costs up to $600.00 if the Digital Camera or components are damaged, lost, or stolen.
- You are also responsible for any violation of the UWM Student Code of Conduct and the Library's Use Policy and all other applicable UWM policies.
WHAT HAPPENS WHEN I BORROW A DIGITAL CAMERA?
- Digital Cameras are checked out from the Media Library.
- You must present your valid UWM ID each time you check out a Digital Camera. NO EXCEPTIONS.
- You read and sign the Borrowers Agreement each time you check out a Digital Camera.
- At the end of the loan period, you must bring the Digital Camera back to the Media Library in person.
- Do not leave the Digital Camera on the Media Library desk unless a staff member is present.
- You must wait for the Library staff as they fulfill obligations to inventory components, test camera operation and provide a receipt.
DIGITAL CAMERA’S BORROWERS AGREEMENT
- I understand that while this Digital Camera is in my possession, I am responsible for it at all times. I WILL NOT LOAN THE DIGITAL CAMERA TO ANYONE ELSE. I will NOT leave the Digital Camera unattended. Digital Cameras MUST be returned ONLY to the Media Library.
- I agree to pay the overdue fine of $10.00/hour per part, if I fail to return the Digital Camera or its accessories to the Media Library’s desk on time. Fines accrue every hour regardless of the hours the Media Library or the UWM Libraries are open.
- I will immediately report any loss or damage of the Digital Camera or its accessories to the Media Library. I agree to pay all costs associated with damage to, loss of, or theft of the Digital Camera and its accessories (up to the $600.00 replacement and processing fee) while it is checked out to me.
- Library Digital Cameras are for research purposes, and I will abide by the Student Code of Conduct and all other applicable UWM policies. The Digital Cameras may not be used for illegal activities including, but not limited to: disruption of other users/services/equipment and harassment.
- I agree that the Library is not responsible for any photos or video left on the Digital Camera or for loss of, or damage to, files during the Digital Camera loan period. All files must uploaded prior to the return of the FlipHD camcorder. All files must be uploaded or saved to a SD Memory card prior to the return of the Canon FS22 camera.
- All Digital Cameras must be returned 30 minutes before the Media Library closes.
- I will not leave the Digital Camera on the Media Library desk unless a staff member is present. I will wait for Library staff as they fulfill obligations to inventory components, test Digital Camera operations, and provide me with a receipt.
- Borrowers should be proficient in the use of the hardware/software they plan to access. Library staff does not provide assistance in the use of either hardware or software.
- I acknowledge that the Digital Camera and its accessories were present and working upon checkout.

SAVING VIDEO/PHOTOS?
- Flip HD camcorder: Video can be saved to internal drive
- Canon FS 22: Video or photos can be saved to the internal drive or SD memory card on the Canon FS22. ***Memory is erased upon camera return – upload or save video/photos to the SD memory card or a computer.

CANON FS22 DIGITAL CAMERA USER INSTRUCTIONS
Getting Started
1) Insert the SD memory card. If you are saving to memory, skip to 2). Flip the camera over and slide the CARD/BATT labeled door
towards the arrow and lift up (CAREFULLY). Insert the SD memory card with the label
facing the battery and the notched side down. Close the door and slide it back into place.
2) Open the LCD viewing screen on the left side of the camera.
3) Press the Silver labeled Power button on top of the camera.
4) Use the Video/Camera dial located on the back of the camera to choose the camera mode.
Turn the dial to:
Green Dual Shot mode - to do both camcorder and camera functions automatically
Camcorder mode - to shoot video
Camera mode – to shoot photos
INITIALIZING THE MEMORY CARD
NOTE: New SD Memory cards may have to be initialized before they are used or if they are not working. Memory cards that have been recorded on in other devices may not work.
– Initializing a SD Memory card will erase ALL still images
Turn the dial to Camera:
Press the FUNC(tion) button located on the LCD screen.
Move the joystick down to MENU. Press the joystick in to choose MENU.
Move the joystick down to MEMORY OPER. Press the joystick in to choose MEMORY OPER.
Move the joystick down to “Initialize” and press the joystick down to choose “Initialize.”
Move the joystick down to “Card” and press the joystick in to choose “Card.”
Choose either: INITIALIZE - to clear the directory allocation but does not erase images.
COMPL. INIT. – to complete erase all images on the card.
When prompted, Press the joystick down to complete the initialization.
Press the FUNC(tion) button to exit the menu.
ZOOM
Use the zoom lever on top of the camera to Zoom In (Tight shot) or Zoom Out (Wide shot) or the zoom buttons on the bottom of the LCD screen.
BATTERY AND AC POWER
The camera battery should last approximately 2 hours. Some activities will deplete the battery more quickly. When the battery is running low, a warning message will appear.
To charge the battery, turn the camera off and plug the power supply in to the side of the camera next to the handle. Flip open the rubber door to plug in the power supply.
REMOVING THE SD MEMORY CARD
1) Flip the camera over and slide the CARD/BATT labeled door towards the arrow and lift up
CAREFULLY. Press the SD memory card down and it will pop up. Remove the
memory card.
2) Close the door and slide it back into place.
UPLOADING PHOTOS (Windows/MAC)
1) Install the Digital Video Software disc located in the camera bag on the computer.
2) Reboot your computer.
3) Plug the camera in to the AC power supply.
4) Turn the camera on.
5) Turn the camera mode dial on the back of the camera to the camera option.
6) Click on the Playlist (button with camera and arrows) on the bottom right of the LCD panel.
7) Plug the USB cable in to the camera jack on the side of the camera and into the computer.
8) Wait for the computer to acknowledge the USB cable.
9) Click on the “Zoombrowse Ex.” icon on the computer.
10) Click on Acquire and Camera Settings on the Zoombrowse Task list.
11) Follow the prompts to choose either transfer all photos or some.
12) When finished – close the “Zoombrowse Ex” program.
13) Make sure to uninstall the USB hardware safely from the computer before unplugging the USB cable.
UPLOADING VIDEOS (Windows)
1) Install the Pixela Application Disc 1 software located in the camera bag.
2) Connect to the Internet.
3) Install Disc 2.
4) The software will ask for the camera serial number. The serial number is on the bottom of the camera on the silver label. Turn the camera over with the lens facing away from you. There are three rows of four numbers. Enter all 12 of those numbers (not the “X1” at the end)
5) Plug the camera in to the AC power supply.
6) Turn the camera on.
7) Turn the camera mode dial on the back of the camera to the camcorder option.
8) Click on the Playlist (button with camera and arrows) on the bottom right of the LCD panel.
9) Plug the USB cable in to the camera jack on the side of the camera and into the computer.
10) Use the joystick to select “PC/Printer” and press the joystick in to select.
11) Wait for the computer to acknowledge the USB cable. ***Note: This could take up to 45 minutes depending on the size of the video file and the speed of the computer. Be patient.
12) Click on the Image Mixer 3 SE Ver4 icon.
13) Click on “Save Files to PC.”
14) Follow the directions on the program.
15) When finished – close the Image Mixer 3 SE Ver4 program.
16) Make sure to uninstall the USB hardware safely from the computer before unplugging the USB cable.
UPLOADING VIDEOS (MAC)
1) Follow the instructions above #4-10 only.
2) Start iMovie.

SAVING VIDEOS TO DVD FROM THE COMPUTER
After uploading the videos from the camera.
1) Open up the Image Mixer 3 SE Ver 4 software by clicking on the icon.
2) Click on Library
3) Click on Smart Album and chose Recently Uploaded. This will bring up a list of the videos uploaded on the right.
4) Click on Disc List
5) Select New DVD List
6) Type in a name for the video file.
7) Click on Library
8) Click on Smart Album and choose Recently Uploaded.
9) Click on the individual videos you want to copy. Click on them and drag and drop them to the DVD List you just created.
NOTE: They will not disappear from the Album but will copy to the DVD list.
10) You will be prompted to Combine files:
Choose Yes – to combine them into one video
Choose No – to have individual videos
11) After you drag all of the videos you want to copy to the DVD List you can move them to the order
you want them to play by clicking and dragging them within the DVD List.
12) Right click on the DVD List Name.
13) Click EDIT DVD LIST
14) Choose the type of Menu for the DVD and click OK
15) Insert a DVD into the computer drive: Compatible with the following types of DVDs:
DVD-R
DVD-R DL
DVD-RW
16) Click on the WRITE button in the bottom right hand corner of the screen.
17) Click OK.
18) In the Write Set-up Menu that appears click on the box next to” Check After Writing”
19) Click on CREATE
BE PATIENT – THIS TAKES A LONG WHILE depending on the size of the video and the speed of the computer.
20) When the copying is finished you will be prompted to see if you want to make another copy of the video you just burned. If you do Click OK – If you are Finished Click on Cancel
21) Close the Image Mixer 3 SE Ver 4 software and eject the DVD. It is now ready to play in a DVD player.
FLIP HD DIGITAL CAMCORDER USER INSTRUCTIONS
GETTING STARTED
Press the small silver power button located on the side of the camcorder
SHOOTING VIDEO
The camera can record up to 2 hours
- Press the red record button on the back of the camcorder to start and stop the recording.
- To Zoom In – Press and hold the “+” button on the silver ring around the record button.
- To Zoom Out – Press and hold the “—“ button on the silver ring around the record button.
To Playback the video –
- Press the play button to the left of the red record button.
- To fast forward during playback press the right arrow button on the silver ring around the record button. To rewind during playback – press the left arrow button on the silver ring around the record button.
- To increase volume during playback press the “+” button on the silver ring around the record button. To decrease volume press the “—“ button on the silver ring around the record button.
Battery Life
- The camcorder battery should last approximately 2hours.
- Camera will automatically shut off to save power after approximately 2 minutes of no activity.
SAVING YOUR VIDEO TO A COMPUTER
The camera is loaded with FlipShare software for saving and manipulating video.
1) Slide the silver latch on the side of the camcorder labeled with the dots to the button to release the USB plug.
2) Attach the USB cable (in the bag) to the USB plug on the camera. Attach the USB cable to the computer.
****DO NOT ATTACH THE USB PLUG ON THE CAMERA DIRECTLY TO THE COMPUTER.
This causes undue wear on the plug and possible damage to the plug and computer jack.
3) Wait for the computer to acknowledge the camcorder.
4) Open the “My Computer” file and click on the FlipShare icon.
5) Click on the “Setup FlipShare” icon to load the software.
6) Follow the directions as it loads.
7) Detailed instructions on all features of the FlipShare software are available by clicking on Help with the FlipShare software.
DELETING VIDEO
1) Press the play button located to the left of the record button.
2) Click on the Delete button labeled with the trashcan on the right side of the record button.
3) Use the left and right arrows on the silver ring around the record button to Choose:
Yes to delete the current recording or
No to cancel the deletion process or
All to delete all of the recordings
4) Press the play button to the left of the record button to “Ok” the deletion choice.
