UWM LIBRARIES AUDIO RECORDER PROGRAM

The UWM Libraries are pleased to make 17 Audio Recorders available for use by current UWM students, faculty and staff with active UWM IDs. Audio Recorders are checked out from the Media Library located in the West Wing, Lower Level.
WHO CAN BORROW AN AUDIO RECORDER?
- Audio Recorders are loaned to current UWM students, faculty and staff on a first-come, first-served basis.
- You must have your valid UWM ID card when borrowing a Audio Recorder. NO EXCEPTIONS.
- One Audio Recorder per person.
HOW LONG DOES THE AUDIO RECORDER CIRCULATE?
- Loan period is 2-days.
- Audio Recorders are not renewable.
WHEN CAN I CHECKOUT AN AUDIO RECORDER?
All Audio Recorders must be returned 60 minutes before the Media Library

WHAT ARE THE FINES AND FEES FOR LATE OR DAMAGED AUDIO RECORDERS?
Please do not leave Audio Recorders unattended. You are solely responsible for the Audio Recorder while it is checked out to you, and you will be accountable for any overdue fines, damage, loss, or theft.
- Overdue fines are: $10.00/hour
- You will be billed for reasonable repair or replacement costs up to $225.00 if the Audio Recorder or components are damaged, lost, or stolen.
- You are also responsible for any violation of the UWM Student Code of Conduct and the Library's Use Policy and all other applicable UWM policies.
WHAT HAPPENS WHEN I BORROW AN AUDIO RECORDER?
- Audio Recorders are checked out from the Media Library.
- You must present your valid UWM ID each time you check out an Audio Recorder. NO EXCEPTIONS.
- You read and sign the Borrowers Agreement each time you check out an Audio Recorder.
- At the end of the loan period, you must bring the Audio Recorder back to the Media Library in person.
- Do not leave the Audio Recorder on the Media Library desk unless a staff member is present.
- You must wait for the Library staff as they fulfill obligations to inventory components, test recorder operation and provide a receipt
AUDIO RECORDERS BORRWERS AGREEMENT
- I understand that while this Audio Recorder is in my possession, I am responsible for it at all times. I WILL NOT LOAN THE AUDIO RECORDER TO ANYONE ELSE. I will NOT leave the Audio Recorder unattended. Audio Recorders MUST be returned ONLY to the Media Library.
- I agree to pay the overdue fine of $10.00/hour per part, if I fail to return the Audio Recorder or its accessories to the Media Library’s desk on time. Fines accrue every hour regardless of the hours the Media Library or the UWM Libraries are open.
- I will immediately report any loss or damage of the Audio Recorder or its accessories to the Media Library. I agree to pay all costs associated with damage to, loss of, or theft of the Audio Recorder and its accessories (up to the $225.00 replacement and processing fee) while it is checked out to me.
- Library Audio Recorders are for research purposes, and I will abide by the Student Code of Conduct and all other applicable UWM policies. The Audio Recorders may not be used for illegal activities including, but not limited to: disruption of other users/services/equipment and harassment.
- All Audio Recorders must be returned 1 hour (60 minutes) before the Media Library closes.
- I will not leave the Audio Recorder on the Media Library desk unless a staff member is present. I will wait for Library staff as they fulfill obligations to inventory components, test Audio Recorder operations, and provide me with a receipt.
- I agree that the Library is not responsible for any loss of or damage to, audio files during the Audio Recorder loan period. All RECORDINGs MUST BE SAVED TO A SD memory CARD prior to the return of the recorder.
- Borrowers should be proficient in the use of the hardware/software they plan to access. Library staff does not provide assistance in the use of either hardware or software.
- I acknowledge that the Audio Recorder and its accessories were present and working upon checkout.

AUDIO RECORDER USER INSTRUCTIONS
Getting Started
- Turn the recorder off.
- Insert the SD card into the SD card slot at the bottom of the recorder. Slide the Button (with 5 dots) slightly to the front and then CAREFULLY lift the flap towards you to reveal the card slot. Insert the card with the label facing the front of the unit and press down.
- Carefully close the flap and slide back into place.
- Slide the On/Off switch on the side to ON.
- Plug headphones into the Phones/Line out to monitor the sound during recording and playback.
RECORDING
- Press the Red record button to record. To stop: Press the Red record button twice.
- PLEASE NOTE: This unit is sensitive – moving/shifting the unit will result in crackling
noises on recording. Set the recorder in place before press record. - To play back the recording – press the play/pause button located below the record button.
- Volume can be adjust on the side of the recorder.
- The location of the Microphone pattern can be adjusted – Press the right and left arrow buttons on either side of the Menu button.
Front 90 degrees - Records from the front (screen side) of the recorder microphone
Rear 120 degrees – records from the back side of the recorder microphone
Surround 2 channel – records from both front and back of the microphone
Surround 4 channel – records from both front and back of the microphone in 4 channels.
Uploading Files to Computer
- Turn the recorder off.
- Connect the recorder to the computer with the USB cord. The USB jack is on the side of the recorder.
- Press the Record button to choose storage.
- To copy audio files to the computer – double-click on the H2 icon shown on the computer and access one of the FOLDER01-FOLDER10 folders or the 4CH folder. Then drag and drop the desired file(s) to the computer.
- To finish. Click on the “Safely Remove Hardware” icon on the computer task tray and select the H2 as the device to remove.
