Wall Breaking Ceremony
The beginning of the construction of the Daniel M. Soref Learning Commons was celebrated with a “Wall Breaking” ceremony on December 5, 2008 during the campus’ monthly First Friday event, co-sponsored by the Libraries and University Information Technology Services (UITS). Remarks were offered by UWM Chancellor Carlos Santiago; Provost Rita Cheng; Libraries Director Ewa Barczyk; Audrey Strnad, Trustee of the Daniel M. Soref Charitable Trust; and Pat Van Alyea, Friends of the Library President. They were joined by Elizabeth Soref, Daniel Soref’s widow, in razing the ceremonial wall.
