Research & Instructional Support librarians work with faculty to design a course integrated library session to complement your research objectives.

Instruction Desired

Course-integrated library workshops are developed individually to meet the needs of each course and section.  The following is a list of common library research activities. Please select the options most relevant to your course research objectives.

locate books s and understand how the Library of Congress cataloging system works.  Learn about Interlibrary Loan, UW System Search and other special borrowing programs. (Estimated session time 20 minutes)

 find both full-text and print articles using our library databases.  Basic database search techniques will cover AND, OR, searches, and subject searches. (Estimated session time 30 minutes)

 evaluate the appropriateness of articles and narrow for scholarly sources.  Learn to decipher a bibliography to locate additional sources. (Estimated session time 15 minutes)

 time for students to use online databases to locate books and/or articles on their research topic.  (Estimated session time 10 minutes)

Instructor attendance at instruction sessions is mandatory. Exceptions may be arranged only with the instruction librarian. Please note that Course Integrated Instruction is only available to UWM instructors.
