The UWM Libraries Research and Instructional Support Department (RIS) provides reference assistance, instructional services, and advice in the use of library materials and collections. The reference collection contains periodical & newspaper indexes and abstracts, encyclopedias, dictionaries, statistical data, directories, handbooks, bibliographies, and more. Information Desk Service
The Information Desk is staffed by librarians and graduate assistants 81 hours/week when classes are in session [schedule of hours]. Hours change when classes are not in session. We can: Suggest strategies & methodologies for your question or topic - saving you time!
- Teach you how to use the online catalog & electronic databases
- Help you connect to sources on the Internet
- Suggest appropriate resources & collections
- Refer you to other libraries, individuals, or associations
Telephone Reference Service
For telephone inquiries you may phone the Information Desk at (414) 229-4659 or 1-877-893-8583 (toll free) during regularly scheduled desk hours. Because of the limitations of staff time, the RIS Department staff cannot provide extensive telephone reference service. Telephone reference questions which can be answered fairly quickly using the resources of the Reference Collection will be accepted.
