Limited to an edition of nine folios, the images were printed lithographically on Arches 88. The text was hand-set and printed letterpress in Sabon. Mary Louise Laird, a native of Milwaukee, founded Quelquefois Press in 1969 at Mt. Horeb, Wisconsin, where she also worked with her former husband, Walter Hamady, at the Perishable Press. In 1988 she moved to Berkeley, California, where she continues to print under the Quelquefois imprint. Her deep interest in mysticism and Sufism is evident in much of her later work. Special Collections holds a comprehensive collection of Quelquefois imprints. Work from this press was featured in the 1995 UWM Library exhibit The Contemporary Fine Press. Mary Laird was a panelist in the 1995 3 Women Fine-Press Printers. |
