This is a limited edition of 1500 copies. The artist for this edition, Marian Perry, was self-taught and represented the first time The Limited Editions Club contracted with a non-traditional book illustrator. Perry began illustrating books of fairy tales, original whimsicalities and "private jokes" in her spare time for her family and friends. After one of her works fell into the hands of Ben Shahn, a well-known artist, illustrator and muralist, he promoted her work and Perry became a full-time illustrator. This volume includes double-fold or Japanese-fold pages where only sides one and four of each folio are printed. A previous owner of this volume began to slice open the folds and separate the pages resulting in blank pages throughout the beginning of the book. |
