Special Collections, Golda Meir Library

This edition employs the Garth translation of Ovid's Metamorphases first published in 1717. This translation is distinctive because of the translators that took part in the completion of the work -- John Dryden, Joseph Addison, John Gay, William Congreve, and a fragment by Alexander Pope. The work was coordinated by Sir Samuel Garth.

The illustrator of this edition is Hans Erni, a prominent mid-twentieth century artist. Erni illustrated many deluxe books, though this was his first work for The Limited Editions Club. He completed fifteen hand-pulled etchings for this edition.
