This relatively slender volume, edited by Dr. Samuel Johnson and George Steevens, is the first in the series of editions "cum notis variorum" (with notes by various people). This and subsequent early variorum editions are icons of the Shakespeare research industry. This edition contains four plays and accompanying commentary. Note Jaques' "All the world's a stage" speech from As You Like It: in this edition, three critics discuss two lines from this speech.
