Dressing. Milwaukee, 1989. Case bound cotton vellum pages printed with gum bichromate (photograph) and drawn on with silver ink.
Dressing is one of a series of works that address a question of the perfection, or lack of perfection, of a body. In this case an association is made between drawings of different items of clothing and illustrations of the proper way to dress wounds and injuries.
In my bookworks, I am interested in the form and structure of the book as vernacular. I combine precious materials and hand worked surfaces with vernacular imagery to activate the concepts of sacred and profane. There is no transcendence in these narratives, only a detailed desire.
