I studied the book arts from afar before finally setting words to type, and ink to paper. My
graduate studies in library science, despite an emphasis on electronic means of transferring
information, instilled an interest in the book as an enduring form of recording and storing
knowledge. At a time when messages are conveyed instantaneously, there is as always a need for
a simple thought, eloquently expressed and thoughtfully considered. The starting point for my
letterpress work has been poets' words which, though sparse, resonate strongly with me. The
process of printing and designing allows me a chance to interpret the words, for myself and for
readers.
