his is an early dated edition of Martial's Epigrams and is considered by some scholars to be one of the most beautiful books produced by this press. The publishers Colonia and Manthen were successors to the first printers in Venice, brothers Johannes and Vindelinus Spire and competitors of famed typographer and printer Nicholas Jenson.

n most colophons to the books issued by these two partners, they make it very clear they only provided financial backing and support for publication. Skilled craftsmen handled all the actual preparation and printing of the editions.
