Graduate Student Intern -- Job Description
Responsibilities: Daily responsibilities include retrieving closed-stack materials for researchers, reshelving, photocopying, book processing and coverage at the reception desk. Intern will assist the Special Collections Librarian in collection evaluation, exhibition production, environmental monitoring, preservation review, backlog processing and catalog preparation. Specific assignments in these areas will be apart of the Intern's ongoing responsibilities. Duties at the reception desk include receiving visitors, registering readers, explaining Special Collections policies and procedures, overseeing the reading room and providing some "front-line" reference. Work at the reception desk requires excellent communications skills and a strong public service orientation. Special Collections is in the process of evaluating its collections and collecting activities, and the Intern will be actively involved in this process. Knowledge of and experience with handling Special Collections materials is preferred. Experience with using standard computer applications (word processing, etc.) is also preferred.
Hours: Up to 30 hours per week (preference will be made for mid-day hours).
