“There are lots of other girls,” she said.  “And better suited for you.”

He frowned.  “If you’re trying to say better suited because of race or color that’s sheer nonsense.  I’m in love with you.”

“I don’t question that, Stan,” she said gently.  “But I’m trying to think of what will be best for [your daughter] and for you.”  (p.188)
