His anger seemed to transfer itself to her.  "There’s entirely too much gossip going on around here," [the doctor] said firmly. "It’s about time somebody put a stop to it."

He scrutinized her for a full minute.  "I might," he finally snapped.  "But what pretty girl doesn’t enjoy being stared at – or whistled at, for that matter?”
