So all over the State of Kentucky the headlines screamed.  One even managed to bring Fern into the limelight.  BEAUTIFUL REDHEADED NURSE HELPS SAVE LIFE OF MILLIONAIRE SCION DABBLING IN WITCHERY.  That had amused Fern almost as much as it infuriated her.  Beautiful?  That was a laugh.  She never thought of herself as beautiful.  (p. 11)
