Friends Annual Program Looks at Milwaukee Education Effort

Ellen Gilligan, President and CEO of Greater Milwaukee Foundation, and Carol Colbeck, Dean of the UWM School of Education, will be the featured speakers at the Friends of the UWM Golda Meir Library Annual Program, Tuesday, May 15, at 5 p.m. in the Library’s fourth floor Conference Center.

Their presentation is entitled "Milwaukee Succeeds - Building a Strong Future for All Our Children." UWM Chancellor Michael Lovell will introduce the speakers.

The program, free and open to the public, will focus on Milwaukee Succeeds, a broad-based community partnership launched by the Greater Milwaukee Foundation, that is committed to “help all children, in every school, from cradle to career.”

Gilligan was previously President of the Greater Cincinnati Foundation, where she helped lead Strive Partnership, an effort that served as a model for Milwaukee Succeeds.

Colbeck began as SOE Dean in July. She is a strong advocate of urban public universities and their potential to positively affect children’s education. UWM is one of the more than 40 community organizations contributing to Milwaukee Succeeds.

The Friends of the Golda Meir Library annual business meeting will precede the program, and will be held in Special Collections, located on the fourth floor of the library, at 4:15 p.m.
