The Life Impact Program has been established to assist disadvantaged parents in their efforts to attain a higher education. The program is funded through a generous donation from the Jane Bradley Pettit Foundation and provides participants with a $5,000 renewable scholarship as well as academic, professional and personal support. Program participants have access to a Life Coach who serves as a first point of contact for all concerns. The Life Coach will follow the students' progress, assess their needs and provide them any resources, workshops and/or referrals to other on-campus or community programs. In addition, for the last six years, Life Impact Program participants have received laptop computers, courtesy of the Great Lakes Higher Education Guaranty Corporation. To date, the partnerships between UW - Milwaukee, the Jane Bradley Pettit Foundation and the Great Lakes Higher Education Guaranty Corporation has resulted in an 86.4% graduation and retention rate for the 118 UWM student parents that have been served. Of the program graduates, 95% have reported employment and/or are seeking advanced degrees. "Without the Life Impact support I would be unable to be where I am today. It has been an invaluable support in my goals to succeed in life. I am forever grateful for the opportunity that has been given to me but even more to the opportunity that has been given to my son."/ -- Life Impact Program Participant Proudly sponsored by: |
