In their own words:
Heather Ford, ASL LLC Advisor:
“I enjoy providing a safe transitional environment for college students to learn ASL, feel connected to the UWM campus, and to make lifelong friends.”
Kelsey Ferris, LLC member:
“I joined the ASL LLC so I would have something in common with people I lived with and so I would know people in my ASL classes. It's great being in the ASL LLC because you don’t have to wait until you’re a junior or senior to get into your major. Here you live your major every day and you always have someone to turn to. We’ve all become really close and it’s because of our commonalities.”
Leah Hoffman, (2010-2013 & RA 2012/2013)
"I originally joined the LLC to immerse myself into Deaf culture. I stayed because I made great friends, and I realized the experience made my transition from high school to college so much easier. I was immediately introduced to others with similar interests, and we got to explore those interests further as a group by taking classes together, and hanging out in our community. I also really enjoyed using the language every day and learning from others in the LLC. I applied to be the RA because I had two great experiences, and I wanted to be a bigger part of creating a positive experience and learning environment for others who are interested in ASL and Deaf culture."
Lauren McKinney, (RA 2011-12)
"The ASL LLC is great place to learn and make great friends. I made so many new connections and friends in the LLC, and I definitely feel like my signing skills improved throughout the year."
Katie Woods, First Year Mentor with ASL-LLC (2010-2012)
"I like how ASL LLC can help the students to learn more about their majors better and easy to make connections with other people as well. I am deaf, so I help the ASL LLC to understand better about ASL and deafness and how to interact with deaf/hard of hearing people."

Katie Lemmenes, LLC Member
"I enjoy living in the LLC because it helped me develop an instant group of friends and connected me to the Deaf community. I think I am a much better signer than I would be without the LLC since I have been able to learn through immersion and experience Deaf culture first hand."
Michelle Lee Cerutti, LLC Member
"I joined the ASL LLC to immerse myself in ASL and to be with people who have similar goals and stories as me. I have thoroughly enjoyed being in the LLC as there are fun activities and many enjoyable personalities. I would definitely return again and again!"
