- You're interested in combining biology and mathematics (and our Biology-Mathemetics undergrad program)
Purpose:
Picture yourself...
- Evaluating the benefits of sustainable campus developments (e.g. green roofs for energy conservation and storm water management)
- Learning techniques to measure building water flow and water uptake by plants
- Developing skills in calculating energy inputs and outputs in buildings and organisms, and apply to your own Sandburg residence building
- Becoming confident using data sets to model processes (e.g. energy conservation of green roofs)
- Being part of a team to help implement sustainable practices in the UWM community
Required Courses:
- Fall Semester: BioSci 194: Freshman Seminar - Biology: One Equation at a Time (3 credits)
In Their Own Words:
Dr. Erica Young, faculty mentor:
“It is exciting to help students work on real problems, rather than textbook examples in the classroom – they are so much more engaged and excited and learn much more effectively.”
