Alcohol Awareness and Safe Drinking
10 Tips for Safer Drinking
Tip 2: Experiment with a BAC calculator (also located in the BAC tab above) to get a rough idea of how many drinks it would take for you to reach the above BAC levels.
Tip 3: Count your drinks to assure that you don't exceed your plan. A "drink" contains about 1/2 ounce of ethanol and includes the following:
- 12 ounces of beer 10-12 ounces of wine cooler
- 4-5 ounces of table wine
- 1.5 ounces of 80 proof liquor
- 1.25 ounces of 100 proof liquor
Tip 4: Ask friends to help you stick with your plan. Show them the BAC tables and assure them that reaching dangerously high BAC levels is not your idea of a good time.
Tip 5: Pace yourself. Pay attention to how fast you are drinking. Stretch your drinks over longer periods of time. Sip instead of gulp your drinks.
Tip 6: Alternate beverages containing alcohol and non-alcohol drinks.
Tip 7: Eat before and during drinking periods.
Tip 8: Avoid drinking games.
Tip 9: Avoid drinking shots.
Tip 10: Have fun, and remember the fun you had!
