Training Advisory Committee
Role and Mission
The Training Advisory Committee (TAC) is composed of representatives from the Bureau of Milwaukee Child Welfare (BMCW) and the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Training Partnership (UWM). The TAC acts as liaison between the BMCW Steering Committee (BMCW/UWM Administrators) and BMCW staff. It also works to ensure that its goals and those of the Steering Committee align. The TAC's role is to make training and development recommendations to prepare staff to meet the needs of children and families receiving BMCW services. Its mission is to promote best practice standards that encompass social, organizational, and legal realities so that staff can most effectively provide those services.
Guiding Principles
The TAC's work is guided by the following principles:
- BMCW partner entities must be knowledgeable about each others' roles and operations;
- Understanding each others' roles and operations will improve overall system performance and facilitate the achievement of best practice standards;
- Staff's ability to learn and increase their skills improves all facets of their work and careers;
- Supervisors play an integral role in staff development, facilitating the transfer of learning that impacts service delivery
- Recognizing community diversity and promoting cultural competency among staff raises performance levels within the child welfare practice as a whole
Scope
The TAC's scope includes:
- Identifying training and development objectives and outcomes for both new and ongoing staff training
- Recommending curriculum revisions, creating training tools, and identifying methods to achieve objectives and outcomes;
- Evaluating training quality;
- Creating subcommittees, setting goals and responsibilities for them, and providing oversight of them;
- Providing input on training policies and procedures;
- Acting as conduit between BMCW partner agencies and various levels within the entities;
- Monitoring transfer of learning across BMCW partner agencies and levels within the agencies; and
- Providing feedback and making recommendations to the Steering Committee.
Membership
The TAC's membership includes:
- Representatives from all BMCW partner entities, and all program areas and staffing levels within those entities
- Representatives from the UWM Training Partnership
- Community representatives as appropriate
- Members able to make a commitment of one year of services, with additional time as desired
