About Child Welfare

The Milwaukee Child Welfare Partnership for Professional Development (MCWPPD) is a partnership between the following organizations:

The goal of the MCWPPD is to collaborate with its partners to identify and respond to the professional d evelopment needs of child welfare professionals employed by the Bureau of Milwaukee Child Welfare and its partner agencies. Program activities include needs assessment, curriculum and instructor development, training delivery and evaluation and performance consultation.

Mission of the Statewide Training System
The MCWPPD is part of the Wisconsin Child Welfare Training System. The system's mission is to develop and delivery high quality, competency-based training to supervisors, staff and caregiving families. The system's approach throughout Wisconsin is family-centered, child-focused, strength-based and culturally responsive.

What is Competency-Based Training and Development?
The goal of competency-based training and development of child welfare staff is to improve staff performance by enhancing knowledge and skill in areas central to quality practice. The MCWPPD maintains a comprehensive list of competencies essential to quality child welfare practice. Professional development needs are defined in terms of these competencies. Training and development activities are directed toward enhancing staff competence in one or more of these areas.
